La Antigua Guatemala is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala famous for its well-preserved Spanish Mudéjar-influenced Baroque architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruined churches. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Antigua is surrounded by large farms and coffee plantations. This photo was taken only two kilometers from Antigua. The Panchoy Valley where Antigua is settled has very fertile volcanic soil and lots of water collected by the long rainy season (May through October). This why flowers are always blooming, vegetables and coffee are grown.
Volcàn de Aqua, Water Volcano towers at 3,760 meters on the background and it is the only compass that you need as you walk around the city; it is to the south of the Antigua.
One of the volcanoes in the background is actually active. On this photo you can see the smoke, ashes and lava being sent onto the sky from Fire volcano (Volcàn de Fuego). It is an extraordinary sight and you can still get much closer and be safe.
